DISC ONE. Live At The Underland.

In the beginning we hear one song about the tragic mental collapse of Fast Freddie (aka Frederick Tybus). From this we segue into Freddie's deluded schizoid dreamworld, a never-ending rock concert at the Underland Rock'n'Roll Cabaret; most of Disc One takes place onstage and backstage at this rock club.

The Host and MC, Mercury Z, introduces the show, and the house singer, the lovely Kitten Candi, and together they welcome the crowd. Then after the band plays a brief overture the regulars, known as the Friday Night Freaks, sing their anthem, after which a rumor circulates through the club that the legendary Boy-O, World's Greatest Rock Star, is present at the Underland and may sit in with the band. This prompts Mercury and Becky, the bartender, to sing a song dedicated to Boy-O and the impact his music has had on their lives. Then Boy-O indeed comes out onstage.

He starts off with his greatest hit from back in the 70's, 'A Love Kinda Thing', then segues into an antiwar rant, at which point Kitten, who has no interest in politics, becomes irate; after an argument with Becky, she sneaks backstage and attempts to seduce Boy-O when he leaves the stage. Boy-O, however, admits that he has no interest in casual sex because he suffers from deep depression. When the other characters inquire as to why he is so depressed, he explains that his bride, the young love of his life, was killed on their wedding day when bitten by a poisonous serpent. The other characters then explain quite matter-of-factly that there is no need for anyone to be depressed in this day and age, as there are pharmaceutical pills for every conceivable emotional problem. Becky and Mercury also point out that they often prefer the illegal antidepressants coca and cannabis.

Meanwhile, the characters are observed by two aliens from the planet Zlotar-17, Rildivam and Strogena, who have been studying human beings through invisible video monitors. They are at a loss as to why human beings suffer from so many emotional problems, since on Zlotar-17 they have perfected the practice of Unifying Behereification. They are also quite confused as to why certain drugs are subsidized by the government while others are illegal.

Back on Earth, the party at the Underland comes to an abrupt end when a Doctor in a white lab coat rushes in crying "Lights Out!", and we realize it is not really the Underland Club at all but in fact the Ünterland Home For The Totally Insane, and the Doctor is Doctor Ünterland. At first Boy-O resists the collapse of his fantasy world, but the rest of the cast convinces him that he is actually the delusional Frederick Tybus....when he nonetheless tries to keep the imaginary 'show' going they finally wrestle him to the ground and inject him with a giant hypodermic full of Happy Juice, and everyone goes into an insensible medicated sleep.

DISC TWO. The Last Rock Star.

We begin with Freddie's tranquilizer-induced dream in which he, still in the persona of Boy-O, drifts peacefully down a river into the wide open sea -- but this is soon interrupted, as Becky, Kitten, and Mercury wake him up at 2 AM to tell him they have come up with a plan to get his lost bride back. They explain Sthat a back staircase of the Home For The Insane actually leads down to the Land Of The Dead, where they will accompany him and he can petition to get his lost love back.

At this point they are interrupted by Doctor Ünterland, but far from putting an end to the proceedings, he cheerfully admits that he too is in fact Totally Insane, and gives his endorsement to the plan. They all then head down the back staircase by candlelight, and the Doctor explains that they should blindfold Boy/Freddie, the better to convince him that he is actually descending into the Land Of The Dead; he believes that play-acting this drama may cure Freddie of his psychosis.

Meanwhile, on the alien ship, Strogena explains to Rildivam about his new invention, the Schnoozifoozilator, which distills a powerful substance called Schnoozis, which when applied with a convenient spray bottle has the power to make imaginary things real.

The main characters have now reached the murky basement of the Insane asylum, where they splash water on the blindfolded Boy, convincing him he is crossing the river Styx, and bite him, convincing him he is passing the 3-headed dog Cerberus. Then they tell him he must travel the last distance alone, as they duck out of sight and disguise themselves as the various personages in the Land Of The Dead; Dr Ünterland becomes the King Of The Dead, Kitten becomes his Queen, Mercury is of course Mercury, Messenger Of The Gods, and Becky is the Girl, the deceased bride of Boy-O.

Boy-O opens his eyes believing himself to be in the Underworld, sees the inmates of Hell at their fruitless and infuriating tasks, and calls out loudly for the King Of The Dead to show himself; when the 'King' comes out he does not recognize him as Dr Ü and, after a brief detour in which the King Of the Dead reveals his partial responsibility for the sorry state of rock music, Boy appeals to him to have his lost love back. He makes three different appeals that are all rejected but finally succeeds in convincing the King when he appeals in the name of the King's own devotion to his beautiful Queen. The King then grants Boy-O's request, the release of the Girl, on one condition; this of course is that Boy must walk all the way back to the surface while the Girl follows five paces behind, guided by Mercury, and Boy must not look back until he reaches the surface.

As they near the surface Boy-O's faith deserts him, he despairs and looks back, and the Girl is taken back down to Hell forever. This causes Boy-O to have a final breakdown into complete and irreparable psychosis, at which point he sings a very dark and depressing song about his disturbing regression into his own childhood, and plays a hideously overorchestrated 80's style guitar solo; by the end of the song his formers fans and friends are so enraged at him that they attempt to tear him bodily to pieces.

At this point the aliens, realizing they must intervene, teleport to Earth and spray the entire scene with Schnoozis, thereby transporting Boy-O into his own concept of Nirvana, in which he is lying on a peaceful beach enjoying a never-ending summer afternoon; they explain that he will have to be kept on life support aboard their ship and spend the rest of his life in this Schnoozis-induced alternate reality. They then sing a lullaby to him accompanied by the now-contrite Kitten and Becky. Boy-O himself then sings of the perfection and bliss of his new world, while the aliens muse on whether his current state is most simliar to death, psychosis, or complete Enlightenment. Finally the rest of the cast, for whom the fantasy of Boy-O has also become real thanks to Scnoozis, bids farewell to the Last Rock Star.
