MILLICENT CADY FABER
Once
again, new pictures are up for the world and the
archives. Millicent is now four. In fact, we might as well face it, this is
no longer a baby or toddler. We've got a kid on our hands. A bossy, opinionated,
mercurial, lovable, funny, absurdly energetic kid.
She's been to two schools now, three summer camps, has friends from family, school, play group, and ballet, and is pretty much a woman of the world at this point. She lives pretty much for ballet, for dancing in general, for music, especially "The Mikado", for art, and for ice cream. You may think she has yours truly wrapped around her finger--but "if that's your idea you're wrong"!. I'm in complete control of the situation. Sort of.
Anyway, how long can I keep this up? As long as I have a website and a digital camera. Check out the latest pictures here.
Finally....new
pictures up after a year of slacking. Thanksgiving, 2004, and Millie is
a more grownup than ever three-and-a-half....Having taken vacations this summer
to Montana, Yellowstone Park, and to New Hampshire, having started at a new
school in Saratoga, and having made great strides in painting, writing letters,
dancing ballet, and various other key areas of a well-rounded little girl's
education....With mercurial personality shifts from the irresistibly lovable
to the horrendously rotten, little Millie is more than several handfuls....but
she is also widely adored by an ever-growing circle of admirers. Latest obsession:
computer games (uh-oh). Latest accomplishment: giving up pacifiers. Latest
issue: wants to sleep in room with Mommy and Daddy.
A vivid fantasy life: Millie would want me to add that she is thirteen, she is a big kid, she has a sister Zuzie, and sometimes a baby brother....as well as numerous other occasional imaginary visitors.
This is a child who can make me laugh, make me deeply happy, and drive me bananas all at the same time.... and she's only 3....good lord. Check out the 2004 pictures here.
Can it really have been this long since the last round of
Millie pictures? Good grief.
It has been quite a year for Millie. Lots of talking. (The learning of language
is an absolutely incredible and miraculous process to witness.) Lots of singing
and dancing. Lots of two year old temper tantrums too! It is not easy to discover
that you have a will of your own, at the same time realizing you often have
little power to get your way.
What else? Humor. My hat falling off my head is the funniest
thing imaginable. Friends. Very interested in Big Kids. Creativity. Longer
periods of concentration, made up stories.
Millie LOVES the water. Lots of swimming. I play the role of Sea Monster. Also she saw her first movie in a theater: Finding Nemo. Became somewhat obsessed with scuba divers.
But most of all, lots of love, hugs and kisses, and good times. The Winter
And Spring 2002 pictures include walks out in the snow with Mojo and a
cute St Patrick's Day outfit. The Summer
pictures include our trip to Squam Lake in August. Collect them all and
trade with your friends.
This Fall Millie started preschool 3 days a week. She loves it. We also have
Play Group once a week with a handful of friends in the area: here
are the pictures from last week.
It is officially true that time flies. Millie is now 19
months old and about to have her second Christmas.
What's
new? Well. talking. Words. Lots of them, nonstop. Laughing, crying. Rapid
shifts from one emotion to the next. Fascination with the computer, the telephone,
all musical instruments especially the guitar, money (!), drawing with markers,
Willy Wonka, Mary Poppins, and Harry Belafonte.
Favorite books are "One Morning in Maine" and "Oh The Places
You'll Go". Favorite foods: eggs, oranges, applesauce, tofu fried with
ketchup. Her other favorite thing in the world is being Naked. She also likes
dancing, feeding Mojo a dog biscuit, and walking to the end of the driveway
to get the mail.
Does Not Like: taking medicine, having her pacifier taken away, having her
diaper changed (if she's in the middle of something else).
Here are the long-awaited pictures from Summer 2002 and from Fall & Thanksgiving 2002.
Our daughter Millie, about to have her 9 month birthday.
She was born 5/4/2001 by emergency caesarean at Saratoga Hospital.
She
gurgles, eats solid foods, crawls around and "cruises" (walking
with one hand on a sofa, chair or your leg) like crazy. She also loves to
bang on the piano and B3, and to scrape the strings of an acoustic guitar.
Millie -- whose full name is Millicent Cady Faber -- is without a doubt the
greatest thing that has ever happened in my life. She changes so fast, every
day in fact, that there is no way I will have time to keep this page up to
date....so many new things happen so fast.
But hopefully I will at least check in and put a couple new photos up every
so often. Here are pictures from the
summer, when Lisa, M, and I visited Squam Lake in New Hampshire, and from
Fall And Winter: Thanksgiving in Argyle, a Dec. trip to NYC when we visited
the Central Park Zoo, and from Christmas.
Our daughter Millie, 2 weeks and 3 days old as of this
writing. Here are the pictures.
Born: Friday, May 4th, 2001, 10:49 pm, at Saratoga Hospital. Elvis Costello's
"Watching The Detectives" was playing on the O.R. at the moment
of delivery.
Millie weighed 7lbs 14 oz at birth. The delivery was by emergency caesarian
due to a condition called "placental abruption". The placenta started
to come loose from the uterus prematurely, wanting to be "born before
the baby"; this caused Lisa to start losing a large amount of blood,
and threatened the safety of the baby's environment as well if the caesarian
surgery was not performed, which fortunately it was without the slightest
complication.
So after a bit of a scare and a whirlwind of emotions I was presented with
a beautiful tiny girl, and 90 minutes later, with a slightly ragged but happy
Lisa. The moment when Lisa first held the baby is when I took the first of
these pictures; then I took more in the hospital (we were there til Monday
morning). There are also a couple that I just took this morning (5-21).
UPDATE 7/25. I added so many new pictures today that there are now FOUR pages
of pictures (these are A Trip To the City, Around
The House 1, and Around the House 2). The
ones that were on this page before are now under "Earliest
Photos". Collect 'em all! --Lo
